2410. 内なる声を聴け。

今日はScenarioなしで行きます。昨日の続きとして、今回は「内なる声」の表現を考えたいからです。

直訳すると"inner voice"ですが、"inner voice"についてはロングマンに次のような定義があります。

"inner voice"

thoughts or feelings that you do not express but seem to warn, criticize, or advise you

「内なる声」

言葉にしないが、自分に警告したり、批判したり、助言したりするような思考や感情。

使い方

My inner voice told me to be cautious.

私の内なる声が、慎重になるように告げた。

この表現は、「勘」とか、「本当の気持ち」とはまた違ったニュアンスがあるように思います。

「本当の気持ち」というより、「体が発する警告や助言」のようなニュアンスです。

日本語には「虫の知らせ」とか「胸騒ぎ」という表現がありますが、それはどちらかというと良くないことが起こる前兆のようなニュアンスがあって、特に「胸騒ぎ」は大きな心配事がこみ上げてくる感覚だと思います。

"voice within"という表現もあります。意味は同じですが、"within" は、前置詞（preposition,）か、副詞( adverb )しかありません。はこの使い方の場合、副詞です。副詞の"within"は「内側にある」（=iinside / n there）のような感じで、日常的にはあまり使われません。文学的、詩的な表現で文脈によっては哲学的な響きを持ちます。

"The voice within"というクリスティーナ・アギレラの歌をご存じでしょうか？何度も、"the voice within"が出てきます。

らぼは、単に「心の声」と漠然ととらえていましたが・・・

後半は省略します。

歌詞の中で、

look inside yourself

と

trust the voice within

が出てきます。

"look inside yourself"は、「自分自身の内側を見る」といった感じですが、

"trust the voice within"からくる印象が、"look inside yourself"とまるで違うのです。動詞が"look"から"trust"になっていることもあるでしょうが、"listen to your inner voice"とするよりももっと崇高な感じです。副詞の"within"が詩的表現を生んでいるのかもしれませんが、らぼには、"the"が大きな役割を果たしているように思います。

あえて、"your voice"ではなく、"the voice"にすることで、とても抽象的な、「静かに語りかける内なる声」であり、「導き」や「癒やし」などの象徴的な意味を持っています。大げさかな？(^_^)

少なくともクリスティーナの力強い歌声に、心の奥に灯る小さな光のような存在が浮かび上がったように感じました。

明日は、「そっと教えてくれて助かった。」というフレーズを考えます。
