ニューヨーク市にあるブルックリン植物園で、"Corpse Flower"という珍しい花が咲いたのだそうです。その動画を見て、この花の特徴をとらえてみましょう。グループでいくつの情報が得られたか、話し合うのも面白いと思います。

因みに、「ブルックリン植物園」の英語表記は、"Brooklyn Botanic Garden"です。「植物園」という言いかたには、"botanic garden"と"botanical garden"の２種類ありますが、一般的には、"botanical garden"が多いものの、古風で伝統的なニュアンスのある、"botanic"という形容詞がこの植物園には使われています。

A really bad smell has people packing the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. That's because the corpse flower has finally bloomed. Look at those lines and Fox's Meredith Gorman takes  us inside for a firsthand（直接） look at the rare plant and to see just how smelly it is.

It's vary rare occurrence, and It's happening right now in Brooklyn for the first time ever. A corpse flower has bloomed at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and folks are lining up to get a whiff of the smelly plant. 

これは、非常にまれなことです。ブルックリンで今まさに植物園史上初のできごとが起こっています。ブルックリン植物園でコープスフラワーが開花し、人々はその悪臭を嗅ごうと行列を作っているのです。

👩🏼‍🏫"get a whiff"→"whiff"は「かすかな匂い」で可算名詞です。

It smells trash like to me. There's definitely like a rotting vibes to the smell.

私にはゴミのような臭いですね。間違いなく腐った感じの臭いね。

Workers have named the plant "Smell It”.  And it bloomed open on Friday morning with gardeners waiting days and days to see when it would happen.

作業員たちはこの植物に「スメリット」という名前を付けました。そしてそれは金曜の朝に咲きました。庭師たちは何日も何日も、その瞬間を待ちわびていました。

Every day it's getting closer and closer and closer but today as soon as I wasn't even in the room and I could smell it. I knew that it had happened overnight. 

日ごとに開花がどんどん近づいてきてたんです。でも今日、私はその部屋にいなかったのに咲いたのが分かったんです。臭いがしましたから。一夜にして事は起こったんだなと知りました。

We knew it was close and that you see like the kind of the spathe（苞葉）of the petal like  thing was pulling way a little bit and it was smelling so we had a good sense that like that was a sign that it was about to bloom.

もうすぐだと分かっていましたし、花びらの苞葉みたいなものが少し引っ張られている感じがあったり、臭いがしたりしてましたから、開花が近い兆候だとわかっていました。

Only 10 botanical gardens around the world have this specific type of corpse flower which is from Sumatra Indonesia and its blooming pattern is even more rare and can take between a few years to over a decade to open. 

この特別な種類のコープスフラワー（死体花）があるのは、世界中でわずか10の植物園だけです。この花は、インドネシア・スマトラ島原産であり、、開花に適した時期はさらに稀で、数年から10年に一度かそれ以上かかるものもあります。

The plant lives in the garden's aquatic house and it's only expected to stay in bloom for 1 to two days this weekend. 

この植物は庭園の水生植物館で育てられており、今週末のわずか1～2日間しか花が持たないと予想されています。

You you better get here soon because word is spreading and the line is getting long and also no word yet on just know how long this plant will stay in bloom for, but it won't be more than likely couple of days according to Brooklyn.
