Scenario : 新しいオフィスをニューヨークに置くことになった。先日ハドソンヤードに行ってみると、次のように言われた。

「ここでは、新しいオフィスの実物大モデルをご覧いただけます。」

"You can see the new mock-up workstation here."

【ポイント１】"station"は「駅」だけではない。

"workstation"は、次のような意味です。コンピュータでの仕事内容が多くなってきた現在では、よく使われます。ロングマンの定義には２つあります。

"workstation"

① the part of an office where you work, where your desk, computer etc are
   人が働くオフィスの一部で、デスクやコンピュータなどがある

② a computer and all the equipment that goes with it
  コンピュータと付属する備品全てのこと

日常生活でよく使う"station"の「駅」以外の表現には、次のようなものがあります。
"station"

① a building or place that is a centre for a particular kind of service or activity
　　一定のサービスや活動のための中心となる建物、あるいは場所

a police station　　　警察署
a fire station　　　　消防署
gas station 　　　　ガソリンスタンド　
polling station 　　　投票所

② an organization which makes television or radio broadcasts, or the building where this is done
  テレビやラジオ報道を行う組織のこと、あるいはそれが行われる建物

New York jazz station WBGO　　ニューヨークのジャズ番組報道局であるWBGO
a local TV station　　　　ローカルテレビ報道局

【ポイント２】「実物モデル」、「実物見本」、「実物大模型」に使える"mock-up"。

"mock"のみを動詞で使うと、堅苦しい表現で次のような意味になります。

① to laugh at someone or something and try to make them look stupid by saying unkind things about them or by copying them 
心ないことを言ったり、マネをすることでその人やものをバカにするような態度であざ笑ったりすること

ところが、"up"をつけて句動詞として使うと、

"mock-up"
to make a full-size model of something so that it looks real
実物に見えるように、物の実物大模型を作ること

となり、名詞では、

a full-size model of something, made before the real thing is built, or made for a film, show etc
本物が建てられる前に作られたり、映画やショーなどのために作られる実物大模型のこと

また、形容詞では、"mock"のみで使い、「模擬の」とか「偽りの」、「～風の」という意味になります。

a mock interview　　面接の練習（模擬面接）　
mock marble floors　　大理石風の床
mock courtroom 　　　模擬法廷
mock cream 　（デコレーションケーキに使われる飾りのための）バタークリーム

似たような言葉として、日本語の「試作品」にあたる英語には"prototype"(プロトタイプ）という言葉があります。それは次のような意味です。

"prototype"

the first form that a new design of a car, machine etc has, or a model of it used to test the design before it is produced
車や機械などの新しい型の最初の形、あるいは作成される前の型を試すために作られる見本のこと

「模擬試験」は、アメリカ英語では"practice test/exam"と言われていることが多いです。"mock test/exam"は、あまり使われていません。（間違いではないようですが・・・）
