Scenario: 咳が止まらないのでコロナに感染したのかと思って受診した。検査をしてもらい、陰性だとわかったが、翌日体もだるいので、やはり感染したのではと思い再検査をしてほしいと言うと・・・。

「抗うつ剤が出たんだ。」

"I was prescribed an anti-depression medication."

【ポイント１】「薬が出た」には、"prescribe"を使う。

日本語では、「薬が出た」と言うと、「私は薬を処方された」ということが分かりますが、英語では、"I was prescribed ～."と、人を主語に持ってきます。

「病院行って、薬をもらってきた。」は、

"I went to see a doctor and got a prescription."

と、"prescribe"の名詞を使ってもいいです。
"prescription"には、「処方箋」の他に、「処方薬」という意味もあります。

「医者に行った」は、｢医者」は場所ではないので、"I went to a doctor."ではなく、"I went to see a(the) doctor."になります。そのお医者さんがかかりつけのお医者さんなら、
"a doctor"ではなく、"the doctor"になります。

prescribeの定義は次のようものです。（ロングマンより）

to say what medicine or treatment a sick person should have 
どんな薬を飲み、あるいはどんな治療を病人がすべきかをいうこと

使い方は

prescribe ＋ 人 ＋ 薬や治療法　　　あるいは、

【ポイント2】"medicine"と"drug"の違いと、"medication"、"treatment"の意味。

次に、

"medication"は、一過性の症状を取り除くというよりは、病気を直すための継続的な薬の使用といった感じです。
