【ポイント１】"close"の日本語表現は使い方によって様々。

【ポイント２】"close"が"shut"と異なる点。句動詞としての"close"の使い方。

「閉める」「閉まる」と同じ意味を持つ"shut"の定義はロングマンによると、次のようになっています。

"shut"
to close something. Shut sometimes has a feeling of doing something quickly and firmly, whereas close sounds more careful
物を閉めること。"shut"は素早く、しっかりと何かを行う感じがあるが、"close"はもっと注意深く行う感じがある。

例
He shut the door with a loud bang.　　　　大きな音をさせてドアを閉めた。
Shut your eyes and go to sleep. 　　　　　目を（しっかり）閉じて寝なさい。

次に、"close"の句動詞の例です。

"close down" 
 if a company, shop etc closes down or is closed down, it stops operating permanently
店などが、"close down"するというのは、永久に操業を停止するということである

Paramount closed down its London office in 1968.
「パラマウント」のロンドン支店は、1968年に閉店した。

"close off"
to separate a road, room etc from the area around it so that people cannot go there or use 人が道路や、部屋などに言ったり、使えないようにしたりするために、周辺から分けること

波止場への道路は鉄のゲートで閉鎖された。

【ポイント３】「クローズアップ現代」は、「現代を閉じる」になってしまう。

句動詞の"close up"の意味は、「～に焦点を当てる」とか「～を大きく取り扱う」という意味はありません。
次のように使います。

 ① if a shop or building closes up or is closed up, it stops being open to the public for a period of time
店や建物が"close up"する（している）というのは、ある期間開いていないということである
例
The resorts are all closed up for the season.
リゾート地が今シーズンはすべて閉まっている。

⓶ to stop doing something for a period of time or permanently
ある期間、あるいは永遠に、何かをするのを止めるということである

When it rains, there is no alternative but to close up shop.
雨の時は店を閉めるしか他にない。

③ if a group of people close up, they move closer together
　人が団体で"close up"するのは、近くに寄るように動くことである。

④ if a wound closes up or if someone closes it up, the edges grow together again or are sewn together
傷が"close up"したり、人が何かを"close up"するというのは、かさぶたができること、もしくは傷口が縫い合わされること

"close-up"は「クローズアップ」ではなく、「クロースアップ」で、
