日本語では、「答える」と「応える」を使い分けています。
今日のフレーズにある、「期待に応える」は、"live up to expectations"です。

"live up to"の定義は次の通りです。

if something or someone lives up to a particular standard or promise, they do as well as they were expected to, do what they promised etc
何か、あるいは誰かが特定の標準や約束に"live up to"するとは、期待されているようにやるとか、約束したことをやったりすることである　（ロングマンより）

The film has certainly lived up to my expectations.
その映画は確かに私の期待に応えてくれた。
