Scenario: 動画サイトでは、討論番組やインタビュー番組が盛んだ。時に聞き手が歯に衣着せぬ言い方で相手を挑発するような質問をすることもあり、「一つ聞いても良いですか？」と言った聞き手に対して、こう言い返した人がいた。

【ポイント１】"settle for"の使い方。

"settle"は、

日本語表現では、
「まあ、いいだろう。」
「それで手を打つよ。」
「それで決着だ。」

などで使えます。

使い方

彼らは2,500ドルを要求しているが、2,000ドルで決着するかもしれない。

【ポイント２】 "intelligent"の意味と使い方。

ロングマンによると、"intelligent"には４通りの意味と使い方があります。

①  an intelligent person has a high level of mental ability and is good at understanding ideas and thinking clearly
"intelligent"を人の形容詞で使うと、その人は、高い精神力を持ち、考えを理解し、明確に考えることに長けている人のことである
